A master’s thesis has been researched in the College of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, which entitled (“Automatic system for detecting fires and locating them in open outdoor places”) by researcher Zahraa Shihab Ahmed Ali Asghar. The thesis explains with the noticeable increase in temperatures all over the world, especially in Iraq, as well as the problems of electrical connection, which led to an increase in the number of fires in Wheat fields, farms and buildings, which led to a great economic loss, to solve such problem, video imaging and computer processing systems are used. Therefore, in this research, a system that adopts the conversion of color spaces and optimization methods is proposed to detect flames and smoke at high speed with real time, as the detection time does not exceed 0.08 seconds.

The results of the system examination also showed that its accuracy reaches 97% for recorded video clips and exceeds 95% for real-time video clips.

This system can be used in many applications, such as the security and safety sector, where it can be used to detect fires in buildings and large facilities, thus reducing human and material losses.

This technology can also be used in the agricultural sector to detect fires in farms, and wheat fields, thus protecting crops and agricultural property. This system can also be used to detect fires in factories and large industrial facilities.

The thesis was approved by the discussion committee, which consisted of Prof. Dr. Qassem Karam Abdullah (University of Babylon), Assistant Prof. Dr. Hamid Rasool Farhan (University of Kerbala), Professor Dr. Arwa Hamid Muhammad Taqi (University of Kerbala), and the membership and supervision of Prof. Dr. Haider Ismail Al-Mayyali (University of Kerbala). ) and the membership and supervision of Prof. Dr. Hawra Hassan Abbas (University of Kerbala).
