The Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering at the University of Kerbala organized a scientific field visit for second-year students (morning and evening studies), under the supervision of Professor Dr. Sajjad Amer and Assistant Professor Dr. Mushtaq Sadiq Radhi, to the Government Buildings Complex Project in the Holy Kerbala Governorate, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
The visit aimed to introduce students to multi-storey concrete structures and their implementation mechanism, in addition to practical applications of theoretical study materials such as building construction, engineering area, and material resistance, and to explain the most prominent engineering challenges facing construction projects and how to overcome them, which gave students the opportunity to see the practical reality and compare it with the theoretical study.
At the beginning of the visit, the implementing company team gave an introductory lecture to students on safety procedures at the work site. After that, a tour of the main buildings of the project was conducted to see the structural system adopted in the construction and the ongoing works such as pouring concrete for ceilings and bridges, brick construction, plaster cladding, and earthworks.
During the visit, the students learned about the mechanism of the project’s central concrete mixer and the quality control tests for concrete works.
It is worth noting that the College of Engineering, with its various scientific departments, is keen to hold such visits because they contribute to building a bridge between academic study and practical application, which enhances the students’ ability to succeed in their future professional lives.
