In the College of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the entitled master’s thesis was discussed
“Study of the best power path for the Iraqi national high-voltage network using the improved particle swarm algorithm”
By researcher Ihsan Nimah Issa
The thesis included studying an effective approach using the improved particle swarm algorithm to reduce transmission losses and generation costs in various overload cases. The Command and Control Department of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity was used to provide the researcher with the technical data required for the national grid to fully complete the objectives of the thesis.
The thesis aims to reduce electrical losses resulting from long-distance transportation from northern to southern Iraq and reduce the production costs of electrical energy in generating stations.
The thesis recommended, through the results obtained, the possibility of operating the national grid near its maximum capacity in the summer and winter seasons, when the peak load reaches according to the proposed capacity paths. It was noted that the procedures used for the Iraqi national electricity grid in the current study could be adopted in the future if the Iraqi grid is expanded as planned.
The thesis was approved by the discussion committee, which consisted of Professor Dr. Dhiaa Jassim Kazem (University of Baghdad, College of Engineering/chair), Assistant Professor Dr. Marwa Muhammad Mar’i (University of Karbala/member), lecturer Dr. Manal Hussein Naweer (University of Karbala/member), and both Professor Dr. Ali Abdul Razzaq Al-Taher (University of Karbala) and Professor Dr. Firas Muhammad Ta’imah (University of Baghdad), member and supervisor
