A master’s thesis was submitted to the College of Engineering – Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Kerbala, tagged (Simulating Surrogate Measures of Traffic Congestion and It’s
Associated Safety Condition at Arterial Streets) by the student Magda Salah Hadi. The first chapter considers the scientific background of the topic, the study’s importance, and its objectives, while the second chapter reviews previous studies. The third chapter explains the methodology of the simulation part, which includes the entire process starting from data collection, processing, and statistical analysis. The fourth chapter presents the obtained results of the simulation and statistical analysis and then a discussion section is given. The fifth chapter is concerned with the conclusions and future recommendations.
The thesis aims to find congestion on arterial roads and the effect of the relative delay rate on the number of accidents by following the simulation method and using a simulation software package that creates a model to mimic a real case scenario, which allows the option of seeing the negative and positive effects of the proposal before making a decision.
The thesis was approved by the discussion committee, which consisted of Professor Dr. Shaker Faleh Shaker, as a Chairman of the Committee, Assistant Professor Dr. Hussein Ali Muhammad (member), Assistant Professor Dr. Abeer Khudair Jamil (member), Professor Dr. Hussein Ali Awad (member and supervisor), Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Rahman Adnan (member and supervisor).
