Within the activities of Global Entrepreneurship Week, under supervision by the Deanship of the College of Engineering, the Department of Civil Engineering held a seminar on (The Importance of Geoparks in Providing Job Opportunities for Youth) delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Raad Muhammad Abdel Zahra. The seminar involved the geology of the Al-Tar Caves area and the stability of the rocky slopes in the region as one of the important criteria in establishing a geopark.
The seminar also touched on the requirements of geoparks for providing tourism services to visitors and tourists, such as hotels, and restaurants, as well as markets for selling local products, such as agricultural and industrial products, and others. In addition to providing other services concerned with tourism matters to the historical and heritage landmarks in the region.
Assistant Professor Dr. Raad Muhammad Abdel-Zahra added that the Al-Tar Caves area, west of Karbala, is a potential global geopark and within the Iraqi government consideration which may be sufficient to provide many job opportunities for young people, professionals and craftsmen.
