The final defense was held in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Kerbala, with thesis’s title: Using graphite plate fins and magnets to improve the performance of sloped solar distillation, by Ali Bani Khasaf, graduate student.
The usage of a novel system that was entirely home-built in a university’s lab was the subject of the thesis. The sun distillation apparatus is the key component of this system, therefore solar distillation with magnets and fins was employed to enhance their thermal and hydraulic performance. Water temperature, the base of the distillation apparatus temperature, steam temperature, and the internal and external temperatures of the glass cover of the distillation apparatus were all tested experimentally and mathematically. This is in addition to the solar still’s effectiveness and output. All of the techniques utilized in this study may improve the functionality of the solar still, according to the findings of the experimental and mathematical studies. And that using fins rather than magnets is a superior way to accomplish this task. However, compared to fins, the usage of magnets plays a smaller role; this was noticed by repeating experimental testing over a period of days and/or weeks until consistent and accurate findings were produced. The thesis was approved by the discussion committee, which consisted of Prof. Dr. Abbas Sahi Sharif and Assistant Prof. Dr. Haider Jabbar Karaji (supervisors). And the membership of each of Prof. Dr. Ghassan Fadel Muhammad (chairman) and Assistant Prof. Dr. Haider Nazim Aziz. (Member) and Assistant Professor Dr. Farhan Lafa Rasheed (Member).
