On May 8, 2025, the College of Engineering at the University of Kerbala marked a significant milestone by conducting its inaugural Ph.D. dissertation defense since the college’s establishment. The doctoral candidate, Abbas Hussein Ali Hassoun, presented his dissertation titled:

“Sustainable Infrastructure Management Strategy and Future Policy Orientation for Iraqi Cities – A Case Study of Karbala City.”

The research aimed to develop a scientific and strategic framework for managing urban infrastructure in Iraqi cities based on sustainability principles. By analyzing the current state and forecasting future trends, the study utilized Karbala City as a practical model for implementation.
