Assistant Professor Dr. Tahseen Hamid Al-Isawi, a faculty member in the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the College of Engineering, University of Karbala, has obtained a new patent issued by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control. This achievement was made in collaboration with a group of researchers from the Holy Province of Karbala.

The patent is titled: “An Innovative Design of a Solar Distiller Filled and Enhanced with Capillary Property and an Inventive Phase-Change Material, Used for Treating Produced Water from Oil Fields.”

This innovation represents a significant advancement in the field of utilizing solar energy for seawater desalination and the treatment of water contaminated with crude oil residues, which are among the most prominent environmental challenges due to the large quantities of associated water generated during the extraction of crude oil and natural gas.
