The College of Engineering, Department of Architectural Engineering at the University of Kerbala, organized a seminar entitled (Developing a pioneering Iraqi scale – Nakheel – to evaluate local urban sustainability), which was delivered by the lecturer, Dr. Raed Fawzi Muhammad Amin, in the presence of the University President, Professor Dr. Bassem Nail Al-Saeedi, and the administrative assistant, Professor Dr. Akram. Al-Yasiri and the Head of the Architectural Engineering Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Haider Ibrahim Allawi, and the presence of a number of college deans, a number of distinguished professors and our dear students.
The importance of the lecture lies in the fact that it talks about a public policy project that designed a tool to evaluate the sustainability of urban development projects in Iraq. Which established its rules from 2018 until its approval by the Iraqi Council of Ministers in April of last year 2023, under the auspices and supervision of Dr. Raed Fawzi, Dr. Shaker Faleh, and assistant teacher Saba Jabbar.
This project is the first unique project of its kind that addresses the most important Iraqi urban challenges, and on the basis of it, sustainable development projects were evaluated, such as housing and industrial projects, the establishment of new cities, and energy improvement, as well as providing alternatives to energy, a mechanism for providing good water, applying a waste recycling mechanism, and much more. It is one of the issues that are global issues that have been highlighted globally to keep pace with the urban development taking place in a way that serves humanity.
